Musicians

Craig Cardiff

Born into a musical family, Craig Cardiff had little choice but to write songs and perform. “If you wanted to quit clarinet, you had to have your next musical instrument picked out already.” Noted as one of Canada’s most impressive musical workhorses, Cardiff is constantly releasing recordings and experimenting with that process – his one release, “Kissing Songs,” was recorded entirely on an iPod touch. Kerouac of indie music, Craig has pioneered alternate venue touring, often appearing in churches, basements, festivals, prisons, camps and even the occasional theatre or festival appearance

Mateo Monk

The music of Mateo Monk is beyond classification. It is a synthesis of multiple genres of world roots music, heavily informed by the spontaneous freedom of psychedelic jam culture. Mateo performs solo on the guitar, flute, synthesizer, and melodica, utilizing a looper pedal to create fully-textured rhythms, adorned with virtuosic melodic musings, all seamlessly woven into the song form in real time. It’s a modern spin on the iconic idea of the “one man band”, executed by a one-of-a-kind artist with deep emotional sensibility and dazzling instrumental finesse. Mateo has been performing for 23 years and has worked with many influential artists, including Thievery Corporation, Jon Kadlecik of Furthur, Junior Marvin of Bob Marley and The Wailers, and members of the legendary reggae group Culture.

Eric Eggleston

Born in Montreal, raised in Ottawa, Eric has been writing and performing since the age of 15. Just before the dawn of Facebook, the Eric Eggleston Band toured and performed all over, including the US, across Canada, Scandinavia and in Killarney, Ireland, where they had the pleasure of performing at Sir Elton John’s afterparty.

Since then, Eric’s created a production house, Johnny Hall Productions, where he collaborates, writes and produces tracks for artists in many genres.
Eric has also recently released an album titled “The Human Crush.” Top Of The Hill from the album was featured in an episode of TNT cop show Rizzoli & Isles and the track ‘Listen To Your Bodycells’ can be heard lots here on Ottawa radio.

Join us at the festival and hear the Eric Eggleston duo perform tunes from the record as well as other sweet summer jams.

Tara Porter

Born and raised in the Maritimes, Tara’s love for music and movement started with music and dance. Her first yoga class was in grade 7, and she took her first yoga training after graduating from high school. Merging her love of music and wellness was a natural progression and she has been offering live music yoga classes with the trio, the Bhavantu Collective (with Devin Johnstone and Juno-nominated producer and musician Rise Ashen) for over 7 years. Tara has been offering Kirtans and sharing the yoga/music love with Teacher Trainings and retreats locally and internationally for over a decade. A trained vocalist, Tara weaves her voice into the flow of the practice through improvisation and in the moment inspiration. She is thrilled to be a part of this inaugural year of Root2Rise!
